Homemade Girl Scout Cookies

Girl Scouts Pictures, Images and Photos
I have always loved Girl Scout Cookies  and really--what human doesn't?  I was a Brownie for like, a second when I was a child (kind of a traumatizing experience really) and almost every year I have bought at least one box of overpriced hydrogenated-oil laden Samoas. (sometimes they are called Caramel deLites but that just annoys me)

I resisted buying some this year because I just don't buy ANYTHING with either high-fructose corn syrup or hydrogenated oils in it and I'm pretty sure Girl Scout cookies have both. I had to bite my tongue so I wouldn't tell one of of those bright, shining faces that her cookies cost too much and use crap-ass ingredients. Maybe I should have broken it down for her so she could pass it on, but...I didn't. LeeLee was having a meltdown and it just seemed easier to say 'Sorry, sweetie! I bought some already this year!'

And speaking of ingredients: they could be worse, but really--they have the resources to make them much, much better. Especially for the price.

So now to the point of this post--I found homemade Samoa recipes! It is already getting hot here and I have tried to curb my sweet tooth/compulsive baking but I might just have to give these a whirl. Or at least these, the simpler version. (although I am not one to shy away from tedious cooking)

I know one of my mama-blogger friends has made them--hey, C how authentic is the taste?

They were freaking fantastic! Even better than the original, if you ask me! I used dark Ghirardelli chocolate and Werther's caramel. Yummo!

Oh I totally agree! It makes me so mad! Samoas are my fave! Or at least they were until I became aware of ingredients! I can't wait to try the recipe!

These are one of my favorites, and having the recipe is too dangerous. Gracious...temptation is rampant.
